Post-Op Rehabilitation

Post-Operative rehabilitation after surgery

Post-operative rehabilitation for seniors is designed to help people who have undergone surgery to have the optimum recovery. A individualised rehabilitation program can help restore a range of motion, strength, stability and coordination after a hospital stay as well as minimise adverse complications and help manage pain. In fact, having a well-designed post-surgery rehabilitation program should be considered as important as the surgery itself.

Physiotherapy treatment is one of the main allied health components of Post-op rehabilitation and may involved exercise programs, manual therapy and splinting. Occupational therapy may also be useful in prescribing assistive equipment to aid in recovery as well help seniors work out ways to carry out everyday activities during the recovery phase.

Recovery from surgery may take some time, depending on the type of operation a patient has undergone. It is important that allied health therapists can design post-op rehabilitation programs for different phases of recovery.
